In-Game Acronyms/ Abbreviations Guide

Why is this topic is important?

Because I was once the worse of newbies! And I did not know at least 3/4 of the listed acronyms/ abbreviations !!! I believe it is also a VERY useful thing to know, since a lot of players seem like they do not consider you may not know these terms, or do not care that you do not speak English as your first language... thus probably, unfamiliar with these terms.

I will try to provide a list of those I know, explaining briefly what they mean from what I know about them. It might not be the best explanation, if you have a better one, feel free to contact me.

If you encounter a new one that is not listed below, just post a reply with “hey what does AFK means?” and someone will do the research and add it to the list. :)

TIP: if you hold CTRL key and type F (ctrl+f = control find :P), you can type the acronym/ abbreviation you are looking for it should be easier for you to find it.

Other sources:
Add – a boss’ minions/followers
When doing bosses, you will see that they are often surrounded by a few minions, when you hear about ‘pulling adds,’ it is these monsters in particular that are required to be rid of before attack on boss starts.

AFK – Away from Keyboard
Self-explanatory, but in general it means the person is absent, cannot be in front of the computer for some time.

Aggro/ Hate – Aggression
‘Holding aggro/hate’ simply means that the monsters/boss that you hit keeps hitting YOU. In general it refers to Barbarians since they have skills specialized in making monsters or bosses targeting him instead of his squad members.
(Ex: You ‘aggroed’ a few monster, someone heals you, but you have not hit all the monsters. Result: you did not keep aggro, thus the healer will become the target .
Ex 2: You tend to deal high damage and critical hits. You are in a squad killing some boss, but you hit harder than the tank, boss is coming at you. Result: You ‘stole’ aggro by dealing more damage than the tank and making yourself the target.
Ex 3: You are peacefully walking in a dangerous zone. :P You walk by cuddly looking little bunnies, for instance Huggy Hare (yes, they are cute, but will owned you once at least). The monsters you walk by are aggressive ones and start attacking you. You ‘aggroed’ them.)
AH - Auction House
Also self-explanatory, auction house is where you can sell, buy and bid on a lot of different items, all coming from the players, there is a fee to pay when you sell something, but usually it is not that high, and you can sell things WITHOUT having to set a cat shop. Items you put to sell in AH are taken out of your inventory, and if unsold, MAILED back to you. Same goes for the ones you buy, they come in the mail.
ALT/Alt – Alternate Character
Depending on players, a lot of people choose to play alternate characters, which they refer as ‘alts’ since they tend to play more on one specific character or consider another character as their ‘main’ character. People may have a lot of alts, one, or none that really depends on the person.
AoE
"Area of effect (or AoE) is a term used in many role-playing and strategy games to describe attacks or spells that affect multiple targets within a specified area." (Wikipedia)
At bosses it generally means you have to move AWAY from Boss’ AoE range, or be careful if you are getting hit. If the cleric is using Blue Ball, you will be asked to enter Cleric’s healing range in order to be healed and ‘protected’ from boss AoE. A Player’s AoE does the same, but to monsters.
(Ex: Archer: Barrage of Arrows / Barbarian: Roar / Blademaster: Heaven's Flame/ Cleric: Tempest / Venomancer: Noxious Gas / Wizard: Dragon’s Breath)
BBIAB - Be back in a bit

BB – Blue Ball (Regeneration Aura)
Regeneration Aura is a Cleric squad skill that heals and reduces damage taken around the said cleric. A DD (usually referring to Archers, Wizards and Blademasters and so on, who’s roles are sadly often over-generalized as ‘born DDs’) is everyone but designed Tank and Healer. The role of a damage dealer is to… well, deal damage :P and basically kill the boss while tank and cleric are holding aggro.
When you are doing Direct Damage you are simply using attacks that does damage at the moment you are attacking, and not over time.

(Guide to RB Gamma)
Red Ball: Heaven’s Wrath is a Cleric squad skill that increases attack rate and chanelling speed around the said cleric.
